The
Red Bay series consists of very deep, well drained, moderately permeable soils
that formed in thick beds of unconsolidated, loamy marine sediments on uplands
of the Coastal Plain. Slopes range from 0 to 15 percent. Near the type location,
the average annual air temperature is about 65 degrees F and the average annual precipitation is
about 53 inches.
