[A profile of a Smithdale soil.]The Smithdale series consists of deep, well drained soils that formed in thick beds of loamy sediments. Permeability is moderate. These soils are on ridgetops and hillslopes in dissected uplands of the Southern Coastal Plain. Slopes range from 1 to 45 percent.

Taxonomic class: Fine-loamy, siliceous, subactive, thermic Typic Hapludults
