[A profile of a Sumter soil.]The Sumter series consists of moderately deep, well drained, slowly permeable soils that formed in marly clays and chalk of the Blackland Prairies. These soils are on gently sloping to steep uplands. Water runs off the surface at a medium rate to rapidly. Slope ranges from 1 to 40 percent.
