[A profile of a Townley soil.]The Townley series consists of moderately deep, well drained, slowly permeable soils on upland ridgetops and side slopes. These soil formed in clayey residuum weathered from shale or interbedded sandstone and shale. Water runs off the surface at a medium rate to rapidly depending on slope and vegetative cover. Slope ranges from 2 to 45 percent.
